If this health and humanitarian crisis we are experiencing worldwide is teaching us anything, it is that homeworking is possible. Due to this pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus, to stop infections and thus avoid sanitary saturation, many countries have decided to decree that the entire population stay at home to isolate themselves from this virus. Therefore, many companies have had to accept this method of work in order not to stop, as far as possible, their economic activity.
This state of quarantine is teaching us many things, such as how to live together. Living together as a family spending more time together, dialoguing with each other, sharing moments, caring more about the people we love ... and showing solidarity with those we don't know but whom we feel just as close to. It is also teaching us to live alone, to find ourselves, to appreciate and understand silences, to listen to ourselves and to others. Undoubtedly, this crisis is teaching us to reflect and question whether a rhythm of life as fast as the one we carry leads to something. Maybe this time is good for us to rethink a slower pace of life.
But returning to the subject of this post, companies have long been considering the possibility of homeworking as a formula for a better reconciliation with family and / or personal life. Some companies in other countries, such as the Netherlands, Sweden or Denmark, have been practicing it for a long time and offering it to their workers (and seeing that it works well), but in many others, companies are quite reluctant to do so. With the current situation, it´s being seen how, in many sectors, it isn´t something impossible. Current technological development is something that helps us a lot: internet, emails, computers ... but it´s true that not all companies can adapt, it depends on the type of business. Nor are all people able to telework, since it requires maintaining certain requirements to work like this. Although this act, can always be improving and get it.
Below I share with you some tips that help a lot when we´re working at home:
It´s very important to have a specific routine and a schedule. Not going to an office doesn´t mean that you don´t have to organize, it is essential. Get organized, prepare your schedule with the tasks to be done.
Having your work space organized is also important, it helps to be more productive. A concrete place, with a comfortable chair to maintain the correct posture of the back, clean, tidy, even why not decorated, it all adds up. Of course working from bed is out of the question.
Get up early to take advantage of the day and dedicate specific hours to carry out your work, as if you were in the office, and don't overwork yourself. Working hours are working hours, not more. It may seem tempting to be at home and do housework, but go back to the previous point, if you organize you can take time for everything.
Don´t forget to also have healthy lifestyle habits, being at home does not mean taking care of yourself. Exercise regularly, drink plenty of water, eat a correct diet ... And don't stop taking care of your mental health. Take short breaks while working (without exceedingyourself) to clear or stretch your legs, at the beginning of the day or at the end of it, practice some type of meditation ... and take time for yourself and for the people around you: paint, cook, read, hook up on a series…
The balance between work and breaks is the key! That is why organization is so important, both yours and your close environment.
These tips can help a lot, but what about clothes? What do I wear to work from home? Clothing, although you may not like it very much, it affects a lot within personal organization. Oddly enough, dressing in one way or another has been shown to greatly affect a person's mood and predisposition to perform certain tasks. Physical image is a source of self-esteem, get out of your head the mythical phrase: "Total, nobody sees me ..."
Therefore, it´s important to take care of the aesthetic appearance even when at home. Working in pijama or tracksuits doesn't work. It´s important to dress as if we were going out but with nuances. So, as a fashion designer, I leave you some tips (in terms of fashion) so that you can continue both in these days of isolation and if you work from home regularly:
Working from home, you may have the situation of having an online meeting with other colleagues, bosses, clients etc. Therefore it´s important to be dressed formally and with a suitable appearance. Don't forget to keep your personal hygiene routine. You even like to put makeup on! You can use a natural finish make up and comb your hair with a simple updo that allows you to work comfortably.
Being at home allows you to relax a little, stylistically speaking. Allow yourself to wear comfortable garments, made of natural fabrics such as cotton, wool ... or semi-natural such as viscose. They are garments that due to their composition are more breathable and although it may seem like a lie, they illuminate the face. As for the structure of the garment, I personally recommend that you use wide garments, especially in terms of inferior garments. You will spend a lot of time sitting and this helps blood circulation. If you feel oppressed you will not be comfortable and you will continually tend to be distracted.
Footwear is also very important, use one that is comfortable, such as flat loafers, flats or sneakers. Being at home you can afford the luxury of leaving the heels aside if you wish.
To make a difference in your looks, you can play with accessories: enter one that animates your look, such as a necklace, a scarf, earrings ...
Change your clothes according to the activity you are going to do indoors, for example, if you are going to exercise, put on appropriate clothes for it.
As a last tip, if you are as passionate about fashion as I am, this is a good time to give creativity and create new looks. You will have a fun time playing with your wardrobe and you will also learn to know yourself better stylistically speaking. Now that you have no prejudice about what people will think about your outfits, you can be more yourself than ever and discover what you look good with and what you don't.
I like always be thinking in a positive mood, and as you can see, there is no harm that doesn´t come for good. This crisis can benefit us positively in many things, we just have to find the reasons. In relation to this post, I want to share with you a very fun challenge that, due to this isolation, the co-founder of the prestigious Self Service magazine, Suzanne Koller, together with Ezra Petronio, fashion director of M, of the Le Monde newspaper, they have created. It's called #staychicathomechallenge, and it consists of uploading a photo to the networks with a “chic” outfit to see that despite working or staying at home, you should never lose your glamor. I have also participated.
I hope this post helps you to cope with this situation and from my house, I send you much encouragement and strength. I encourage you to share this post with your friends and colleagues. If you want to comment something I read you! See u soon :)
