Comfy style

Updated: Apr 30

Today I come to talk to you about yoga and fashion, a very booming sport. Brands are also beginning to notice this sporting trend and more and more are joining the development of specialized collections in this sport and in the yogi public. Emerging in this way, also on the street, a comfy trend.

I also consider myself a yogi. I practice yoga for four years untill now, a sport that changed my life. The perfect conjunction between physical exercise and mental relaxation that helped me understand and discover myself. Undertanding what happen inside me, I understand better everything that happens around me. This sport change my mind and point of view. I always recommend practicing yoga to strengthen muscles and gain flexibility, to improve and correct blemishes of the spine; but also to strengthen and understand what happens inside our body. For this reason it´s necessary to know how to breathe well. Yes, as you read, I didn´t know how to breathe correctly until I started practice yoga. We breathe every day, but not at 100% of our capacity and not in the best way. For this reason, many internal problems appear. Breathing well you can massage all your internal organs, facilitate digestion ... and of course avoid anxiety, stress and headaches.

Take advantage here and I leave you some postures that relieve anxiety and headache. Not as doctrine, because I am not a yoga teacher, but as a yogi advice.

  • Ustrasana or camel pose: This yoga pose relieves anxiety, especially in chest area. It also makes the spine more flexible and helps not hunch the back. To do it, get on your knees, with your back straight, feeling your spine rise. Then put your hands on the lumbar, take a long inhalation through the nose and exhaling through the nose, go back until you are able to support your hands on the heels. If you can't reach your heels, don't take your hands off your back. Once the posture is achieved, inhale and exhale through the nose 8 times, you will see how anxiety improves.

  • Supta Virasana or Reclining Hero Pose: It is a relaxing asana with therapeutic benefits. Not only will you stretch your knees and back, but by supporting your head and pressing the ground on it, you are releasing pressure on it. With your back straight and on your knees, keep your knees close. The instep of each foot will be in contact with the ground. Take a breath through your nose and lean back and lower your hips until your buttocks touch your feet. (Depending on the flexibility you have, it will be easier or not for you to support the buttocks). Then, lean back, inhaling again, resting your arms and head on the floor. Once in the pose, inhale and exhale 8 times. You will see how your head will be lighter.

Returning to the topic of this article, if we do a quick review of the origin of sports fashion, we must go back to the 1920s. At that time of freedom and development, designers such as Jean Patou or Coco Chanel, were pioneers creating sportswear for sports like golf or tennis. But it wasn't until the 1980s that this trend for sportswear became more popular. What we know as Sport Wear has been a constant since the 80s, currently reaching the luxury market with brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga, as emblems. But a new movement, based more on a complete way of life and a new ideal of beauty, is breaking all style expectations: Yoga. The novelty is that many specialized brands are becoming desirable firms also for street fashion, what we know as Street Style.

Practicing yoga and therefore dressing with these garments or possessing this style is related to what is known in fashion as "comfy", something comfortable. Yogi fashion reflects empowerment, healthy life and slender and agile, natural beauty, based on care and positive thinking. Here are some firms specializing in yoga fashion with the most boom in the market:

  • Ecoyoga: Spanish brand, 100% national manufacturing, specialist in materials and clothing for this sport.

  • LULULEMON: The leading brand among yogis. It is a Canadian brand in full swing, with a turnover of 3 billion euros, with 415 stores spread around the world.

  • Leser Yoga: specialist brand in yoga clothing, with sustainable materials and dyes made in BCN.

  • Aloyoga: a clear example of how yoga and Street Style come together. Founded in LA in 2007, they are relentless about making the best yoga clothing in the world explicitly to inspire yogis (and yogis to be) to have more yoga in their life.

  • Rituals: a universe of skin care based on skin care techniques of Japanese origin, it also has a collection of yoga clothing made from recycled cotton and polyester.

I hope you liked this article, and maybe it awakened your desire to practice yoga. I read you in the comments. NAMASTÉ.
