We all have a basic accessory in our wardrobe, a handkerchief. It is a practical accessory to avoid the cold, but if we know how to use it well, it can also be a star accessory for any outfit.
This spring / summer season 2021, we are going to see the handkerchief everywhere. Will you know how to get the most out of it? Although at first glance it goes unnoticed, if you know how to introduce it with style in your looks, you will make a difference. Here are some ideas on how to use it in this photo session I did for the magazine FLIS(R) Moda y Derecho al Día.
You already know that I always like to investigate and share a little about the origin of clothes. Well, in this lines below, I tell you what is the origin of this accessory:
More than 3,000 years ago the foulard was already used in the Middle East and Africa, where it was worn for religious reasons and as a protection talisman. From there it was introduced to Europe from the East, where Jewish and Orthodox women began using it for the same reason.
Although the handkerchief has adopted such a French name, under no circumstances is it a Gallic invention as we have seen. The name of "foulard" is given in France in the 18th century. Later, in the 19th century, Empress Josefina Bonaparte, who was a great collector of scarves, introduced the scarf as a fashion in Spain. It is said that her collection of pashminas from Idia and made in silk, reached 500 copies.
In the 20th century, several fashion houses updated the "foulard", bringing it to the status of a work of art. Making pieces by hand mainly of silk, with drawings by artists, limited editions and ancient techniques that greatly popularized its use for both men and women.
From this time, it is worth noting how Hermès, the great house of leather accessories for horse riding, began in 1937 to delve into the design of foulards collections, making them very popular among the European nobility. Its careful preparation and its price made them very exclusive and today it is still one of the most recognizable accessories of the brand. Later, other firms such as the Italian Pucci, made them fashionable in large dimensions, with an ethereal color and geometric drawings.
As you can see, the scarf has always been present in the history of fashion and we continue to use it to this day. And you, how do you plan to use it in your looks this season?
